BBC ‘Click’ reviewed new hearing technology and requested the assistance of Harley Street Hearing Partner Matthew Allsop to trial and give his feedback.  To watch the programme please click on the image below, Matthew’s review starts half way through the programme at 15 minutes.

Clinical Director Paul Checkley was interviewed by Global News after a new, international study concluded that up to a third of dementia cases might be preventable; with hearing loss being the TOP modifiable dementia risk.
The findings from an international commission of 24 leading experts from around the world were published in the prestigious journal, The Lancet.

Many people don’t realise that they risk loosing much more than their hearing.  Hearing loss can lead to isolation and depression and put you more at risk of dementia.  Anyone who has concerns that their hearing is not what it used to be should get their hearing tested.

Harley Street Hearing are London’s leading independent hearing clinics.

    Lyric inside ear

Lyric hearing aid“Going to North London Hearing has changed my life so much for the better. Without my Lyric hearing aids I would not be able to work as a teacher, would be nervous of going into company and I think would also be in danger from not hearing traffic etc.

I first went to North London Hearing some years ago and got an efficient ordinary hearing aid, which worked well. When something went wrong with it, or I needed a check-up, I was told about the Lyric and wanted to try that in one ear (now I have one in both ears).

I have always found the clinic in Golders Green and in Harley Street to be friendly, caring, completely professional and supportive.

Full of satisfaction and praise for all of them and happy to recommend them to anyone who might be interested.”

Hearing is often something we take for granted. Hearing loss only becomes a real issue when your friends and family start to notice you are mishearing things; or you’re asking people to repeat themselves. This can often lead you to feeling isolated and withdrawn, it can also mean loved ones become frustrated with repeating constantly.

Seeking advice from a professional is the first step to take to identify possible causes.

At our hearing clinics we have a team of highly skilled audiologists who have been providing specialised hearing healthcare in London for the last 25 years.  The majority of our patients come to us from medical professionals or by word-of-mouth.

We are readily available with our knowledge and empathic nature to go through this journey with you to ensure you get the best outcome.

Our consultations typically last an hour and involve full diagnostic evaluations of your hearing.  After this we give you clear, concise, tailored advice on the best way for you to hear to the best of your ability.

We encourage your loved ones to come along too so they can appreciate what you have been going through, and they can then help with your hearing journey.

Paul & Hannah at desk smilingThroughout the entire process you will be in a comfortable, relaxed environment where one of our highly qualified audiologists will be available to guide you every step of the way; and it doesn’t just stop there.

Our bespoke aftercare service means we continue with your ongoing hearing care, and support you throughout the years.

With us you are a patient for life.

    New Hearing Technology

Hearing aids have long had a stigma attached to them, but now technology has advanced to such a point that this is now a thing of the past. The majority of musicians and performers use hearing protection and embrace their high visibility.

As we are completely independent we have access to new products from every hearing aid manufacturer worldwide (unlike some chains who are tied to one brand). This means we choose from a wide variety of hearing aids to ensure the one chosen matches your specific hearing loss; as well as your individual lifestyle.  You can expect the most up-to-date, cutting-edge technology with us.

Many of the newest hearing aids can be automatically connected to your mobile telephone, television and mp3 devices; streaming high quality sound direct to your ears!  Discreet options are available that can be used no matter what activities you partake in.

We have also been fitting the ‘Lyric’ hearing aid for many years and were the first clinic to trial “the only truly invisible hearing aid” in the United Kingdom. It is revolutionary in that our ‘Lyric’ wearers say they are completely oblivious to having hearing aids as they can be worn for months at a time, even when showering, swimming* exercising and sleeping.  For more Lyric info click here

“I have just had microsuction treatment at your clinic for impacted ear wax which was proving very stubborn to remove. I was treated by Ayesha, she was truly professional and sympathetic with a caring attitude. May I take this opportunity to thank her for returning my hearing to normal, I’m truly delighted.  Ahh, – the joy of sound.  Your receptionist took my call with polite efficient speed and arranged an appointment the same day, so many thanks to Lavinia. Well done Wellington staff. An extremely happy customer, kindest regards to you and your magnificent team.” Tom Morgan.

eric-hill-03-smallPlaying and listening to music, especially the acoustic classical guitar, has been central to my life. After far too many years putting up with  tinnitus, (a hissing radiator sound), and a habit of frequently asking people  to repeat words, I conquered my professional musician, psychological barriers to wearing hearing aids and sought help. I first tried the NHS and discovered that the free hearing aids made violins in particular sound like chalk scraping on a blackboard.  A love of music was not made very important in the consultation; it was all about recognition of words.  I decided to “go private” and came to Paul Checkley . I was fitted with a pair of extremely discrete Widex hearing aids and I played my guitar and listened to orchestral and jazz music as part of the computer “tuning” of the aids. This was in addition to an exhaustive analysis of my response to words. The result has been wonderful, particularly as I have learned to control them using the remote wireless volume control. At the start of orchestral concerts I establish the loudest part, (usually the brass section), and adjust to that. I love starting the day by putting BBC Radio 3 on and hearing the music come alive as I put the aids in place. Without them it sounds as if it’s been smothered in cotton wool! Thank you Paul and the Harley Street Hearing group.

    Eric Hill.

“Hearing loss for anyone can be hard to cope with but if you are conductor of music, it can be career threatening.  A couple of years ago, I acquired a hearing aid on the NHS which I was reasonably happy with but in the past year I have gone for a new ‘in-ear’ hearing aid from the North London Hearing clinic in Golders Green.  This has transformed my life and has restored my hearing to how it was when I was young man.

Not only is this brilliant in rehearsals and concerts but it makes a massive difference in recording sessions, where I can wear headphones as normal, without having to take my hearing aid in and out.  Regrets?…..  the only one is that I didn’t do it 5 years earlier.  It is not cheap but it improves your quality of life beyond words.”

    David Temple – Conductor
